Lobby Day 2013
October 17, 2013
7:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Kick off NELA’s 2013 Fall Seminar by joining NELA members from around the country for NELA’s Lobby Day 2013:
Raising Our Voices For Change on Thursday, October 17. Lobby Day 2013 will focus on two legislative campaigns of great importance to employee rights advocates, their clients, and the fair administration of justice: (1) the Arbitration Fairness Act (S. 878/H.R. 1844), and other legislation to ban forced arbitration of employment claims; and (2) the Civil Justice Tax Fairness Act (S. 1224/H.R. 2509), formerly known as the Civil Rights Tax Relief Act, which allows for income averaging of lump-sum awards, and restores the tax-free status of non-economic damages.
There is no charge for participating in Lobby Day 2013, but pre-registration by October 15, 2013 is required. A Lobby Day Breakfast Orientation & Briefing will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 7:30–9:00 a.m. at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel, followed by Congressional and federal agency visits, and a Capitol Hill reception for participants at the end of the day.
Once you register for Lobby Day, you will receive detailed information about
the day’s schedule,
preparing for your Hill visits, and more. NELA’s Legislative & Public Policy Office will work with participants, who will be responsible for
making appointments with their Senators and Representative.
NELA Lobby Days are fun, exciting, and rewarding and you will make a difference! Nothing is more effective in persuading Congress, the Executive Branch, and federal agencies than personal visits from constituents and community leaders who can explain how an issue is affecting their district, their state, and the nation. Don’t miss out, join us!
