Yesterday, President Obama nominated long-time NELA member Jenny R. Yang to serve as a Commissioner on the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). When confirmed, Ms. Yang will fill a seat vacated earlier this year by former Commissioner Stuart J. Ishimaru, now the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's (CFPB) Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI).
Ms. Yang is currently a partner in the Civil Rights & Employment practice group of Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll in Washington, D.C., where she represents plaintiffs in large scale class actions, including race and sex discrimination cases, and unpaid overtime cases under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Previously, Ms. Yang served as a Senior Trial Attorney with the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Employment Litigation Section, where she worked for five years. Prior to that, Ms. Yang worked at the National Employment Law Project in New York City. Ms. Yang is a contributing editor of the ABA Labor & Employment Law Section’s employment discrimination treatise, Lindemann & Grossman,
Employment Discrimination Law, upcoming 4th Edition and serves on the Board of the Asian Pacific American Legal Resource Center.
