The NELA Exchange Blog is pleased to present the following guest posting from Julie M. Weiner, President of NELA-GA. For more information about NELA-GA, please visit www.nelaga.org. Julie can be reached directly at JulieMWeiner@aol.com.

On behalf of the Georgia Affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association (“NELA-GA”), I would like to welcome you to Atlanta for NELA’s Fall Seminar, “Bias 2.0: What Every Employee Advocate Should Know.”

NELA-GA is an organization of more than 100 attorneys throughout the State of Georgia who represent workers in employment-related matters. Our member benefits include an active email listserv where we exchange ideas, provide documents, announce our victories and defeats, and assist our colleagues by answering questions and providing advice. We also have a website, which contains a document bank and searchable access to our email listserv messages, and have recently started a Facebook page to post news articles and other information related to our member’s cases. Additionally, NELA-GA hosts membership meetings throughout the year where we feature speakers on current issues surrounding plaintiffs’ employment cases, and we host an annual CLE with the Institute for Continuing Legal Education in Georgia that focuses on substantive and procedural issues involved in employment-related matters.

We are very excited that NELA has chosen Atlanta for the 2012 Fall Seminar. There are many things to do that are close to the downtown area. The Georgia Aquarium, CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park, and World of Coca-Cola are a short walk away from the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, and Zoo Atlanta is only a 5-mile car ride. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change (“The King Center”) and Ebeneezer Baptist Church are also located in the vicinity. You may want to check online for tickets to concerts and sporting events, as you will also be very close to Philips Arena, the Georgia Dome, and Turner Field (if the Braves make it into post-season). Only a few miles away in the “Midtown Atlanta” area you will find the High Museum of Art, the Fabulous Fox Theater, Piedmont Park, the Margaret Mitchell House, and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. If you like to shop, Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza are large malls across the street from each other in the affluent Buckhead area, which is a short ride away on our rail system, “MARTA.” If you have a car, you can take a 20-mile drive to enjoy Stone Mountain Park, where you can hike the mountain, see the Cyclorama (a panoramic exhibit of the Battle of Atlanta) and watch the Lasershow Spectacular in Mountainvision. When you’re hungry, you will find almost any type of dining experience you can imagine in the Midtown, Downtown, Virginia Highland, and Buckhead areas—from authentic Southern cuisine to five-star restaurants.

We hope you enjoy the Fall Seminar and your stay in our great city. If you have any questions about Atlanta, feel free reach out to me or another NELA-GA Board Member. There is a directory on our web site if you need contact information for any of our members.
