Boot Camp Basics

Choose How You Participate
Individuals who register as "Trial Boot Camp Advocates" will have the opportunity to refine their trial techniques and perfect their individual styles by conducting two three-hour mock trials. This format will enable you to "learn by doing," observe other lawyers practice their techniques, and receive constructive feedback. Advance preparation is required for Trial Boot Camp Advocates. Those who wish to learn by listening to and watching the lectures, demonstrations, mock trials, and critiques, but who do not want to conduct the mock trials themselves may register as "Trial Boot Campers."

All participants will be assigned to one of the Trial Boot Camp’s "Trial Teams" based on experience level. Trial Teams will be led by the same "Trial Team Leader" throughout both days of the Boot Camp. The Boot Camp will use a common fact pattern based on an actual pregnancy discrimination case. Participants will be provided with the case materials in advance of the Boot Camp, and are strongly encouraged to review them before they arrive at the Boot Camp to maximize the learning experience.

Trial Boot Camp Advocates
Trial Boot Camp Advocates ("Advocates") will be assigned to "Trial Teams" of four Advocates based on their level of trial experience. Each Trial Team will be led by a "Trial Team Leader" over the course of the two-day Trial Boot Camp, which includes two three-hour mock trials in which the Advocates will have the opportunity to role play as plaintiff and defense counsel and witnesses. Advocates will present an opening statement, conduct direct and cross-examinations, and deliver a closing argument, all of which will be followed by a critique. Intensive preparation and participation is required of Trial Boot Camp Advocates, including "homework" prior to the Boot Camp and working early and late hours throughout the entire two-day Boot Camp.

Registration for "Trial Boot Camp Advocates" is limited to 104 participants. A waiting list will be maintained, and registration will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis should space become available.

Trial Boot Campers
Individuals who are interested in learning and acquiring trial advocacy skills but who do not wish to participate as "Trial Boot Camp Advocates" (as described above) are invited to register as "Trial Boot Campers" ("Campers"). Campers will be assigned to participate in Trial Teams based on level of experience.
