On Monday, March 7, 2012, NELA will join hundreds of advocates convening in the White House for a strategy session on judicial nominations. The meeting will take place the same day the Senate is set to vote on
three judges, the last beneficiaries of a deal between Republicans and
Democrats to allow confirmation votes to more than a dozen potential
appointees who have already cleared the Judiciary Committee but whose
confirmations have been stuck for months.
NELA members, Megan O'Malley and Bill Ewing will engage top White House officials on the effects of judicial vacancies in their states, Illinois and Pennsylvania, respectively, and participate in a planning session aimed at moving stalled nominees through the Senate. Both O'Malley and Ewing will also take on the Hill and discuss the emergency status of their jurisdictions with their home state Senators. As a member of the Coalition for Constitutional Change's planning committee, I had input in the event's state invitee list and agenda.
