J. Bernard Alexander, III is a founding partner of Alexander Morrison + Fehr, LLP and a civil rights attorney trying plaintiff employment and police excessive force cases, having tried 80+ cases to jury verdict, often with 7 and 8 figure results, including the 9 figure and largest single plaintiff race harassment verdict in history in Diaz v. Tesla, of $136.7 million, and most recently a $30.5 million verdict in Lewis v Kern County (Sheriff), in March 2025, a police brutality wrongful death case. As president of the California Employment Lawyer Association (2014), he created an annual employment trial college that has graduated over 400 attorneys. Bernard has been recognized as Trial Lawyer of the Year by CAALA (2022), the Langston Bar Association (2024), and the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association (2024); has received the CELA Joe Posner Award (2016) and the LACBA Jim Robie Professionalism and Civility Award (2020); been designated a Top 10 Attorney in Southern California (2019 to 2025), a Top 100 Attorneys in California (2019-2024), and a Super Lawyer since 2009. Bernard is a lifetime member of the UCLA Alumni and Langston Bar Associations and serves on the Southwestern Law School Board of Trustees, on the Board Member of FAIR and the NELA Executive Board. Bernard is a fellow in ABOTA, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the College of Labor & Employment.
